Commentary:

U.S. cattle exports experienced a significant decline of 27.11% to start the year, comparing January of both 2023 and 2024.

Both Canada and Mexico, major trading partners for U.S. cattle, saw substantial decreases in exports, with Canada down by 38.37% and Mexico down by 35.40%.

The most notable change comes from Saudi Arabia, which accounted for 3,650 head of cattle in January 2024, showing an astonishing increase of 24,233.33% compared to January 2023.

It is worth highlighting that the United States only exported cattle to 5 countries in January, indicating a limited export market for U.S. cattle during this period.

Honduras and the Dominican Republic also witnessed declines in U.S. cattle exports, with decreases of NA (not applicable) and -47.06% respectively.

The significant fluctuations in cattle exports, particularly the sharp decline overall and the unexpected surge in exports to Saudi Arabia, underscore the volatility and complexity of the international cattle trade market. Factors such as trade agreements, market demand, and regulatory changes can greatly impact the flow of cattle exports, influencing both domestic and international stakeholders in the cattle industry.
