(JUNE 29, 2023) - On June 26, U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA) President Justin Tupper joined Missouri members David Mooney and Chris Black in discussing the current state of the U.S. cattle industry with Congressman Mark Alford (R-MO).

Mooney and Black organized the meeting specifically to demonstrate the need for the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act, which would establish a minimum percent of cash negotiated trade in the cattle marketplace. Current sponsors of the bill in the House include Representatives Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Mike Levin (D-CA), and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA).

Rep. Alford holds a seat on the House Agriculture Committee, where the bill would be considered.

USCA President Tupper thanked Mooney and Black, who operate a custom fertilizer business in Richland, Missouri, for bringing everyone together with a hosted steak dinner.

"USCA is built on its grassroots membership," said Tupper. "I drove from western South Dakota to central Missouri to be here this week because I believe in the strength and leadership of each and every individual member in making meaningful industry change. A huge thank you to Chris for donating his time and resources to host this local meet-up."
