KEVIN MILLER HONORED AS THE JOHN V. ROBBINS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE RECIPIENT

DENVER — The best leaders are those who lead through service, and Kevin Miller could be a servant leader blueprint. The Briggsdale, Colorado, resident was recently recognized for his service to the Red Angus Association of America as the 2023 John V. Robbins Distinguished Service recipient during the 70th National Red Angus Association Convention held Sept. 13-15 in Denver.

Presented to individuals who have contributed to the betterment of services offered by RAAA, the John V. Robbins Distinguished Service Award recognizes the value of the time and talents so generously donated by its recipients.

Miller, an RAAA board member for one of the longest tenures, continues to serve the association in a variety of roles both for the greater good of the Red Angus breed, as well as the RAAA membership. He began his leadership by joining the RAAA board to fill a vacant seat, followed by two elections and more than eight years as a seated member of the board.

“His tenacity, intelligence, wit and knowledge were desperately needed at that time in the history of Red Angus,” said Kim Ford, former RAAA president and co-owner of Cross Diamond Cattle in Bertrand, Nebraska. “Among many other points of service to Red Angus, Kevin was instrumental in working through the development, beta-testing and roll-out of the REDSPro database, which has been transformational to the membership of Red Angus.”

Holding a bachelor’s degree in animal science and a master’s degree in management systems from Colorado State University, Miller has worked with a variety of research, heifer development and commercial cow-calf operations. He became a partner with his wife and her family in Croissant Red Angus in 2006, and their dedication to the Red Angus breed is apparent as they were named the 2017 RAAA Pioneer Breeder of the Year.

“You would think that after eight years of board service, that would be enough,” said Ford. “But Kevin has quietly continued to serve in a variety of roles to expand the scope and increase the value of Red Angus.”

His service isn’t limited to the RAAA, as he is also involved with Colorado Cattlemen’s Association as a member of the animal health and wellbeing committee, serves as vice chair for the NCBA Cattle Health and Wellbeing working group and is a member of the Briggsdale FFA Advisory committee.
