OKC West LIVE:  Nine Weight Steers Take Center Stage

Today, Wednesday, June 4th, in El Reno, OK, expect partly sunny skies with a high near 74°F and a north wind around 10 mph. Tonight, there’s a 20% chance of showers after 1 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 63°F. Winds will shift to the east-northeast at 3 to 8 mph.

Nine-weight steers have taken center stage so far on Wednesday at OKC West, accounting for 41% of steer receipts and averaging $284.10/cwt. The top sale to this point was 80 head at 912 lbs bringing $304.50/cwt, followed by 13 head at 933 lbs selling for $299.00/cwt—now the two highest nine-weight sales ever recorded at OKC West.

Tuesday’s feeder sale at OKC West saw moderate trade, with five-weight steers making up 45% of total steer receipts. The top sales included 24 head at 570 lbs bringing $390.00/cwt and 48 head at 544 lbs selling for $382.50/cwt. Both 3-weight sales (10 head minimum) made the top 10, including a standout lot of 14 head at 330 lbs that brought $500.00/cwt—the highest 3-weight price in OKC West history and the first to reach the $500 mark.

In crop and pasture updates, 4% of Oklahoma’s winter wheat has been harvested, up from 3% last week but behind the 21% pace from a year ago. Pasture conditions in the state are currently rated 58% good to excellent, 31% fair, and 11% poor to very poor.
