Introducing Joe Epperly, the Director of Breeding and Genetics for NextGen Cattle Co.
Joe is excited to join the NextGen team and continue their commitment to quality for their customers and the industry. Epperly says, βI am thrilled to join a team that focused on the commercial customer and being a part of their success at every step of the road.β
Market growth of the Angus and Angus X programs in addition to Beefmaster and Charolais are a focus for Joe, he looks toward making a product that works for commercial producers nationwide. βAt NextGen, we feed over 120,000 head of cattle a year and we try to make a large percentage of those customer calves so making profitable commercial genetics is the foundation of our business. I like how the company is committed to sharing data back to the customer to aid in their management and selection decisions.β Epperly said.
Joe Epperly grew up on a diversified livestock operation in central Virginia comprised mainly of registered Angus seedstock along with commercial cattle, quarter horses, sheep and goats. Joe also spent much of his youth heavily involved in the family livestock market as well as 4-H, FFA and the National Junior Angus Association.
He received his B.S. in Animal Science from Virginia Tech where he was on the livestock judging team and worked on the college research farm.
Prior to joining NextGen Cattle, Joe worked for the North American Limousin Foundation for seven years, first as the Director of Commercial Marketing before becoming the Assistant Executive Director. Most recently, he spent the last 6 years as Director of Genetics and Sale for Wagonhammer Ranches in Nebraska working with their Angus, Charolais and Simmental Programs. He has served 10 years on the Board of the Beef Improvement Federation including a presidential term in 2023 and also serves on the Breed Improvement Committee for the American International Charolais Association.
