Joplin Regional Stockyards recently achieved a historic milestone by conducting an 18-hour sale where a record-breaking 15,600 head of cattle were sold. This extraordinary event commenced at 3:59 am with the sale of 2 bulls and concluded at 10 pm with the sale of 1 cow, marking a grueling yet remarkable day in Joplin's history.

For over seven decades, Joplin Regional Stockyards has been a symbol of excellence in the beef industry and is renowned as the largest cow/calf auction in the nation. Spanning over 10 acres and hosting 50 weeks of cattle sales annually, it serves as a crucial hub for cattle buyers and sellers across the four-state region.

The sale featured an impressive 14 strings, each consisting of 100 head or more. The largest string comprised 151 steers, weighing 684 pounds, and sold at $250.00 per head. Additionally, 58 strings, with a minimum of 50 head, and 463 sales with at least 10 head were conducted on Monday.

Notably, the highest price paid for 9-weight steers on Monday was $234.00 per head for 36 steers, each weighing 900 pounds. In the 8-weight category, the highest price reached $244.00 per head for 12 steers, weighing 820 pounds. Furthermore, there were four sales of 10 or more 7-weight steers that exceeded $250.00 per head, including 40 steers weighing 707 pounds, which sold for an impressive $254.50 per head.

The majority of sales were attributed to 6-weight steers, with 71 transactions (each involving a minimum of 10 head) averaging $262.88 per head on that day. Additionally, there was a noteworthy sale of 5-weight steers, with 11 head weighing 511 pounds, fetching an impressive $330.00 per head.
