Dunlap Livestock Makes History During World Livestock Auctioneer Championship

On Saturday, June 7th, the cattle industry witnessed a sale for the ages at Dunlap Livestock Auction. Held in tandem with the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship, the barn ran 6,400 head in front of a packed house — and shattered records across the board. Corbitt Wall of DVAuction, who was on hand for the event, declared it the Superior Steel Sales “Stickout Sale of the Day” — a distinction well-earned for what was the most impressive sale in Dunlap’s long and storied history.

“This was the hottest sale I’ve seen in years,” said Wall. “With all the momentum in the market and the championship crowd in town, everything aligned for an absolute blowout. You had top buyers, elite auctioneers, and premium cattle—just fireworks from start to finish.”

🏆 A Historic Day for Dunlap—and the Nation

The numbers were nothing short of extraordinary. Dunlap set 55 new barn records and 30 state records, including a clean sweep of all top 10 Iowa state records for 8-weight steers, all broken in a single day. Records fell across every weight class from 4-weight to 10-weight steers, marking this as not just a local milestone, but a national one.

Some of the most eye-popping national rankings from the day include:

  • 812-lb steers @ $330.00 (17 head): 6th highest 8-weight nationally all time

  • 911-lb steers @ $310.00 (56 head): 2nd highest 9-weight nationally all time

  • 902-lb steers @ $307.50 (62 head): 4th highest 9-weight nationally all time

  • 1,006-lb steers @ $290.00 (22 head): New all-time record for 10-weight steers in U.S. history

With 6 to 10 aggressive buyers per draft, and many national order buyers in attendance who don’t typically attend the barn, the bidding was as competitive as the cattle were good. Each auctioneer finalist in the championship was given a high-quality draft to sell, adding to the energy and precision in the ring.

🎤 Where Champions Were Crowned

The day also saw Dean Edge of Rimbey, Alberta crowned as the 2025 World Livestock Auctioneer Champion, with Brennan Jack earning reserve honors. The barn was polished and buzzing, thanks to the work of the Shaben family and Will Epperly, who hosted the event with professionalism and pride.

“It didn’t even need fixing up, but they had that place spotless,” Wall added. “Dunlap proved this weekend that an older barn, when run right, can host a world-class event that sets national records.”

With a white-hot market, top-tier cattle, and the industry’s best auctioneers all under one roof, Dunlap’s June 7th sale wasn’t just another auction—it was a moment of legend in American cattle marketing.
