CLARA LIVE:   🏆   Big Kansas 9-Weight Strings Bring $314.50–$315, Underscoring Disparity with August Feeder Futures  🏆

Pratt Livestock made a major impact on the 9-weight feeder steer market Thursday, securing 7 of the top 10 highest prices paid in the country. The day was highlighted by two premier trades: 111 head at 938 lbs for $315.00 and 146 head at 920 lbs for $314.50. These sales now stand as the 3rd and 6th highest prices ever recorded nationally for 9-weight steers and also claim the top two all-time spots for 100+ head strings in that weight class. With August feeder cattle futures settling at $303.30, both lots commanded more than $11/cwt premiums, emphasizing the strength and bullish tone of the cash market.

At Broken Bow Livestock in Nebraska, Thursday's run delivered a series of record-breaking sales across several key weight classes. A headline-grabbing lot of 186 head at 988 lbs brought $297.50, setting a new all-time high for 9-weights at the barn. Broken Bow also hit new highs in the mid-weight categories, including 15 head at 600 lbs for $402.50, a barn record for 6-weights. Additional standout trades included 64 head at 795 lbs fetching $329.00, the 3rd highest 7-weight price ever, and 15 head at 579 lbs selling for $387.50, which ranks 3rd all-time for 5-weights.

Record-setting activity also defined the day at El Dorado Livestock in Kansas, which posted its top three all-time 7-weight sales and top two all-time 8-weight prices. The barn was active with quality, high-demand offerings, including 50 head at 778 lbs selling for $334.50 and 121 head at 865 lbs bringing $324.00. Both sales established new benchmarks for their respective classes and underscored the strength of El Dorado’s offerings in a highly competitive market.

The largest feeder cattle sales on Thursday were led by Pratt (Pratt, KS) with a total of 1,873 head. Following closely were El Dorado (El Dorado, KS) with 1,488 head, and Woodward (Woodward, OK) with 1,352 head. In the cash market, the RTI 7-Day Feeder Index printed at $313.50 (+$0.09), while the National Steer Price came in at $310.29, though down $11.13 from the previous day. Despite that decline, both cash benchmarks remain firmly above the board. The RTI Index holds a $10.20 premium over August futures, and the National Steer Price sits $6.99 higher, underscoring the ongoing disparity between futures pricing and actual cash trades.
