National weighted average prices set new all-time records on Thursday in the 5-, 7-, and 8-weight steer categories. The 500–599 lb group averaged $413.40, the 700–799 lb category came in at $349.60, and the 800–899 lb group hit $325.16—each marking the highest national weighted average ever recorded for their respective weight class. These record-level prices reflect the exceptional strength in the feeder cattle market and continued demand across all classes.

Woodward Livestock (Woodward, OK) added to its historic July run on Thursday, setting 23 new barn records along with 5 Kentucky state records. The sale featured new all-time highs in the 8-, 9-, and 10-weight divisions, including 39 head at 810 lbs bringing $332.00/cwt—marking the top 5 eight-weight sales in barn history; 23 head at 921 lbs sold for $323.50/cwt—accounting for the top 4 nine-weight sales ever at the barn; and 109 head at 1,000 lbs brought $301.25/cwt—making up the top 3 ten-weight sales on record. It was a continuation of the barn’s strongest month ever, driven by high-quality cattle and aggressive bidding across all classes.

Farmers & Ranchers Livestock (Salina, KS) posted a big sale on Thursday, setting new Kansas state records in both the 7- and 8-weight categories. A powerful draft of 77 head at 724 lbs brought $385.50/cwt, now the highest 7-weight sale ever recorded in Kansas and the third-highest nationally. Additionally, 64 head at 803 lbs sold for $359.75/cwt, establishing a new Kansas state record and setting the all-time national high for 8-weights.

Pratt Livestock (Pratt, KS) had an outstanding sale on Thursday, setting new records in both the 9- and 10-weight divisions. A standout draft of 67 head at 900 lbs brought $329.00/cwt, establishing a new all-time barn record for 9-weights, the highest 9-weight price ever recorded in Kansas, and the third-highest nationally. Additionally, 119 head at 841 lbs sold for $339.50/cwt, marking a new barn record for 10-weights, the second-highest 10-weight sale in Kansas history, and 10th all-time in the U.S. 

Paris Stockyard in Paris, KY had a strong run on Thursday, setting new barn records in both the 7- and 8-weight divisions. A standout draft of 34 head at 723 lbs brought $367.75, marking the highest 7-weight sale in barn history and the second-highest ever recorded in Kentucky. Also selling were 64 head at 829 lbs for $335.00, setting a new barn record for 8-weights and ranking as the third-highest 8-weight sale in Kentucky history.

Mitchell Livestock (Mitchell, SD) had an outstanding sale on Thursday, setting seven new barn records across multiple weight classes. The barn posted its two highest 10-weight sales ever, led by a standout draft of 46 head at 1,012 lbs selling for $297.00/cwt, followed by 37 head at 1,051 lbs bringing $292.00/cwt—both establishing new all-time marks for Mitchell in the heavyweight category.  

Feeder cattle futures softened on Thursday, with the August CME contract closing at $328.90, down $2.625 on the day. Despite the pullback in futures, the cash market remained firm. The RTI 7-day Feeder Index climbed to $329.24, now holding a slight premium over the board. Meanwhile, the National Steer Price surged to $334.59, up $6.66 and widening its premium to over $5.60 above August futures.

The largest sales on Thursday were led by Woodward (Woodward, OK) with 1,967 head, followed by Farmers & Ranchers (Salina, KS) at 1,806 head, Pratt (Pratt, KS) with 1,788 head, El Dorado (El Dorado, KS) at 1,551 head, and Orland (Orland, CA) with 1,453 head.   Feeder cattle receipts were down 3% from last Thursday.
