Joplin Regional Stockyards opened the week with a standout sale, setting 17 barn records across various weight classes. The day featured new all-time highs for both 8- and 9-weight steers, along with a tie for the 7-weight record. Most notably, Joplin posted the strongest run of 9-weights in barn history, with 8 of the top 10 highest prices ever recorded for that category set during the sale.
It was a standout day at Sioux Falls Regional Livestock on Monday, July 14, as the market set 16 new barn records, including three all-time highs in the 3-, 9-, and 10-weight categories. In the 9-weight class, 634 head averaging 974 lbs brought $319.60/cwt, the highest price ever recorded at SFRL, followed by 27 head at 927 lbs for $310.00/cwt, now the second-highest 9-weight sale in barn history. Sioux Falls posted four of the top 10 all-time 9-weight sales during the day. On the heavy end, 114 head weighing 1,098 lbs sold for $293.00/cwt, setting a new barn record for 10-weights. In total, five of the top 10 highest-priced 10-weight sales ever at Sioux Falls were made in this single sessionโmarking a truly historic day at the barn.
Tina Livestock Market (Tina, MO) had an outstanding Monday, setting 10 new barn records and achieving all-time highs for both 6- and 7-weight steers. Among the highlights, 10 head averaging 605 lbs sold for $404.00/cwt, and 12 head at 737 lbs brought $358.00/cwt, setting new records in their respective weight classes. In the 8-weight category, 171 head averaging 896 lbs brought $300.50/cwt, ranking as the 3rd highest 8-weight sale in barn history. Meanwhile, 62 head at 953 lbs sold for $305.50/cwt, making it the 2nd highest 9-weight sale ever at Tina Livestock.
Feeder cattle futures fell sharply on Monday, with the CME August contract closing at $319.475, down $5.85. The RTI Feeder Index edged higher by $1.02 to $320.90, while the National Steer Price rose $1.37 to $322.15. Cash prices clearly outpaced the board following the big drop in futures.
The largest feeder cattle auctions reported on Monday included Joplin (Carthage, MO) with 6,898 head, followed by Sioux Falls (Worthing, SD) with 2,878 head. Other notable sales were BG Lexington (Lexington, KY) at 1,519 head, Callaway (Kingdom City, MO) at 1,498 head, and Tina (Tina, MO) with 1,434 head. Receipts were up 25% from last Monday.

Nine-weight steers exceeded their previous record set just last Wednesday, reaching a new all-time high with Monday's national weighted average of $310.87/cwt. This marks the highest 900โ999 lb steer average in U.S. history, surpassing the $310.07/cwt posted on July 9 and solidifying the current marketโs historic strength in the heavyweight feeder category.
