Eight-weight steers led all sales on Monday, accounting for 35% of total steer receipts and averaging $307.17, a slight increase from $306.76 last week. Green City Livestock (Green City, MO) dominated the category, capturing 8 of the top 10 prices reported. The three highest sales of the day all came from Green City, featuring 59 head at 825 lbs selling for $328.25, 60 head at 825 lbs for $327.75, and 64 head at 812 lbs for $327.00.

Nine-weight steers averaged $300.46 on Monday, marking an increase of more than $16 from Friday and setting a new all-time high for this weight class. It was also the first time nine weights have averaged over $300.00. The record-setting average was driven by three standout sales, all of which set national records for nine-weight steers: 63 head at 906 lbs for $315.25 (3rd all-time), 67 head at 902 lbs for $313.75 (8th all-time), both from Green City (Green City, MO), and 131 head at 919 lbs for $313.50 (9th all-time) from Tina (Tina, MO).

On Monday, CME Feeder Cattle futures for August closed at $310.675, up $2.775. In comparison, the RTI 7-Day Feeder Index was reported at $314.25, an increase of $1.13, while the National Steer Price (NSP) came in at $314.17, up $0.69. The cash market maintained a premium over the futures, with both the RTI and NSP trading approximately $3.50 higher than the August feeder cattle contract.

Monday’s largest auction receipts were led by Joplin in Carthage, MO, with 5,685 head. Green City in Green City, MO, followed with 2,732 head, while Callaway in Kingdom City, MO, reported 2,123 head. Russell in Russell, IA, moved 1,731 head, and National in Oklahoma City, OK, totaled 1,388 head.  Auction receipts increased 17% from last Monday.

Green City Livestock etched its name in the record books on Monday, posting the strongest 8-weight feeder steer market in barn history. All top 10 highest prices ever paid for 8-weight steers were set during the June 30th sale, led by a standout string of 59 head at 825 lbs bringing $328.25. From 801 to 888 pounds, every high-marking lot came through in one historic run.
