CLARA LIVE:   📈 Mitchell Livestock Posts Record Sale as 8s and 9s Dominate Receipts with New National Highs 📈

Burwell Livestock had a historic day on Friday, setting new all-time record sales for 6-, 7-, 8-, and 9-weight cattle. Leading the way were two standout 7-weight sales: 70 head at 708 pounds sold for an incredible $359.50, followed closely by 47 head at 716 pounds bringing $354.00—now the top two highest 7-weight sales ever recorded at the barn. The 8-weight category saw equally impressive numbers, with 112 head at 809 pounds selling for $324.00, 34 head at 838 pounds at $322.00, and 35 head at 809 pounds going for $319.00. These three now rank as the top 8-weight sales in Burwell Livestock’s history.

Eight- and nine-weight steers dominated receipts on Thursday, making up 52% of total steer volume, and both weight classes set new all-time record weighted average prices. 8-weights averaged $313.45, while 9-weights reached $292.93, breaking the record they had just set on Wednesday—marking back-to-back record highs for 9-weights. Meanwhile, 7-weights came in at $322.27, holding a premium of less than $9 over 8-weights, an unusually narrow spread that highlights the strength in heavier feeder classes.

At the barn level, Pratt Livestock (Pratt, KS) posted the top 8-weight sale, moving 166 head at 800 lbs for $329.00, which now ranks as the second-highest 8-weight price ever at Pratt. Incredibly, the top all-time 8-weight prices have all been set since last Thursday, underscoring just how quickly the market is climbing. On the 9-weight side, Enid Livestock (Enid, OK) led the nation with 50 head at 909 lbs bringing $315.00, a price that now stands as the third-highest ever recorded nationally for that weight class.

Among the standout sales were 24 head at 600 lbs bringing $408.00, 41 head at 709 lbs at $366.00, 15 head at 922 lbs fetching $307.50, and 56 head at 1,036 lbs topping the charts at $287.35—each establishing a new national benchmark for their respective classes.

With prices $5 to $15 higher across tested weights, Enid led the market in both volume and value for key steer classes. The barn moved 729 head of 9-weight steers averaging 943 lbs at $295.30 and 544 head of 8-weights at 840 lbs for $313.99, setting the tone for national pricing. On Friday, feeder cattle futures took a hit, with the August CME Feeder Cattle contract dropping $4.825 to close at $306.425. In contrast, the cash market held firm, with the RTI 7-day Feeder Index easing just $1.15 to $313.56, while the National Steer Price surged $5.87 to finish at $317.16. The sharp divergence between futures and cash highlights continued strength in the physical market, even as futures traders pulled back amid broader market pressure.
