Champions Selected at 2022 National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer and Bull Pen Show

Lincoln, Nebraska – The 2022 National Gelbvieh and Balancer® Heifer and Bull Pen Show was held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City. Exhibitors welcomed judge Cheramie Viator from Tomball, Texas, to evaluate and sort through four pens of heifers and 17 pens of bulls.

 

Gelbvieh Pen of Heifers

Champion pen of three Gelbvieh heifers was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1407 pounds and an average weight per day of age of two pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 19, 2020, to February 1, 2020, heifers within this pen were sired by JRI General Patton 213B97 ET.

Reserve champion pen of three Gelbvieh heifers was owned by Circle S Ranch of Canton, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 968.7 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.09 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from February 17, 2021, to February 25, 2021, heifers within this pen were sired by CIRS Right Time and DCSG Post Rock Power Built 37B8.


Gelbvieh Pen of Bulls

Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh Bulls was owned by Circle S Ranch of Canton, Kansas with an average pen weight of 1136.3 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.61 pounds. Ranging in age from February 7, 2021, to February 25, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by DCSF Post Rock Power Built 37B8. The average scanned ribeye was 16.17 square inches, 3.07% IMF and .26 inches of fat.

Reserve champion pen of three Gelbvieh bulls was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1212.3 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.66 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 10, 2021, to March 1, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI General Patton 213B97 ET. This pen scanned with an average ribeye area of 15.17 square inches, 2.82% IMF and .21 inches rib fat.

Champion pen of five Gelbvieh bulls was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1128 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.28 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 11, 2021, to January 29, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI Secret Instinct 254U83, JRI Alan 68G3 and JRI General Patton 213B97. The average ultrasound ribeye area was 14.64 square inches, 3.3% IMF and rib fat of .25 inches.

Reserve champion pen of five Gelbvieh bulls was owned by Post Rock Cattle Company of Barnard, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1193.6 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.58 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 21, 2021, to February 6, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI Oklahoma 246C4, CTR Jackpot 8660F ET and DLW TPG Frontrunner 2510F. The average ultrasound ribeye area was 15.46 square inches, 3.9% IMF and rib fat of .32 inches.


Balancer Pen of Heifers

Champion pen of three Balancer heifers was owned by Kyson Thiel with Dobson Ranch of Kaw City, Oklahoma, with an average pen weight of 909 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.98 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from February 26, 2021, to March 3, 2021, heifers within this pen were sired by MDR First STEP 7549E and MDR First Round Pick 9824G ET.

Reserve champion pen of three Balancer heifers was owned by KC Cattle Company of Columbus, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1031.3 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 2.37 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from October 17, 2020, to November 2, 2020, heifers within this pen were sired by Colburn Primo 5153.


Balancer Pen of Bulls

Champion pen of three Balancer bulls was Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1260 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.87 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 23, 2021, to March 5, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by JRI General Patton 213B97, Basin Payweight 1682 and JRI Secret Instinct 2 ETN. The average scanned ribeye was 14.97 square inches, 3.36% IMF and .26 inches of fat.

Ranging in birthdates from February 27, 2021, to March 3, 2021, bulls in this pen were sired by MDR First Round Pick 9824G ET. Champion pen of five Balancer bulls was owned by Judd Ranch Inc. of Pomona, Kansas, with an average pen weight of 1151 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.38 pounds. Ranging in birthdates from January 16, 2021, to February 4, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by Basin Payweight 1682 and S A V Rainfall 6846. This pen scanned with an average ribeye area of 13.8 square inches, 3.39% IMF and .27 inches rib fat.

Reserve champion pen of five Balancer bulls was owned by Taubenheim Gelbvieh of Amherst, Nebraska, with an average pen weight of 1112 pounds and an average weight per day of age of 3.37 pounds. Ranging in age from January 28, 2021, to February 4, 2021, bulls within this pen were sired by TAU Infinity 47C, Deer Valley Growth Fund, S A V Resource 1441 and EGL Lifeline B101. The average scanned ribeye was 15.14 square inches, 3.6% IMF and .28 inches of fat.
