Blue Grass Stockyards in Lexington, KY hosted a historic cattle sale on Tuesday that shattered records and raised the bar for Kentucky feeder cattle markets. The barn set seven all-time Kentucky records, including three new No. 1 prices in state history—a rare feat that underscores the depth and quality of the offering. “It was one of the most impressive sale days we’ve ever hosted,” said Jeremy Shryock, Manager of Blue Grass Stockyards. “The quality of the cattle was outstanding, and buyers responded in kind.”  All records noted below represent lots of 10 head or more, reinforcing the significance and scale of these price levels.

Among the headline-makers: 16 head weighing 402 lbs sold for $427.50, setting the highest 4-weight price in barn history and ranking 5th all-time in Kentucky. The 85-head draft at 517 lbs brought $432.00, which not only marked a new record for the barn, but also set the all-time state record for 5-weight steers—possibly one of the strongest 5-weight sales ever recorded in Kentucky. For 8-weights, the barn posted its two best prices ever, both of which now rank 2nd and 3rd on Kentucky’s all-time list.

The 9-weight class was equally impressive. A 63-head draft averaging 918 lbs brought $289.75, while 58 head at 941 lbs sold for $285.00—these two sales are now the top two 9-weight prices in the barn’s history, and rank 1st and 3rd all-time in Kentucky. Blue Grass capped the day with a 113-head group weighing 1,014 lbs at $270.25, setting a new record for 10-weights both at the barn and statewide.

Altogether, Blue Grass Lexington made history with three first-place state records, while placing seven drafts among Kentucky’s all-time best, reflecting extraordinary demand for premium, well-conditioned feeder cattle.
