Introduction

In the heartland of America, where cattle ranching has deep roots, Beef Northwest stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of agricultural innovation and dedication. Established in the 1870s as Wilson Cattle Company, Beef Northwest has evolved into a people-focused enterprise, committed to caring for cattle, producing wholesome beef for consumers, supporting its customers, and championing economic sustainability in agriculture. With a rich heritage and a progressive vision, Beef Northwest exemplifies the harmony between tradition and innovation that defines modern cattle feeding.

Our Mission

At Beef Northwest, the mission is clear: to be a progressive, relationship-driven cattle feeding company that upholds both profitability and sustainability through operational excellence. This commitment underpins every facet of their operations, from animal care to market innovation.

Our Roots: Honoring Tradition, Embracing Opportunity

The roots of Beef Northwest run deep, back to the lush pastures of Baker Valley in Eastern Oregon, where the Wilson family began their ranching legacy. Five generations later, John and Jim Wilson recognized the need for finishing options in the Pacific Northwest, leading to the establishment of the first feedyard in Nyssa, Oregon. This marked the inception of Beef Northwest's remarkable journey.

Today, Beef Northwest encompasses four main feedyards in Boardman, OR; Nyssa, OR; Quincy, WA; and three growyards in the Hermiston, OR area, with a combined capacity of 110,000 head. Their influence extends to extensive grazing operations across the northwest United States, encompassing cows, calves, and feeder cattle.

While cattle form the core of their business, it's the people who infuse life into it. Beef Northwest prides itself on employing individuals committed to teamwork, animal welfare, and food safety. This dedication allows them to innovate, tackle challenges, and maintain their high standards of animal care.

Embracing Change: Pioneering New Markets

Beef Northwest believes in the future of cattle production and embraces changes in consumer preferences as opportunities. They have pioneered new management and marketing strategies, participating in initiatives like Country Natural Beef and Certified Angus Beef. Their forward-thinking approach ensures a broad array of consumer-focused efforts, reflecting their commitment to evolving with the industry.

John Wilson, Managing Partner/Owner, emphasizes their dedication to rural America, economic viability for farmers and ranchers, and quality of life. He states, "Our team is composed of quality, skilled, and professional people who recognize our livelihood depends on the production of safe and nutritious products."

Caring for Cattle: A Commitment to Animal Welfare

At Beef Northwest, the welfare of the cattle in their care is paramount. They implement verified animal husbandry programs and adhere to practices like Progressive Beef and Beef Quality Assurance. Remarkably, Beef Northwest was the first feedlot in the nation to be certified under the third-party auditing standards of Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P.). This commitment to animal welfare extends to rigorous training for all employees and frequent refresher courses conducted by animal behaviorists.

Join the Family: Job Opportunities

At Beef Northwest, employees are not just workers; they become family. Their team shares a profound love for agriculture, progressive animal husbandry, and hard work. From administrative positions to pen riders and feed callers, Beef Northwest's commitment to its employees is unwavering. Beef Northwest offers feeding opportunities for both commercial cattle entering conventional feeding programs and specialty feeding programs, including GAP 4 and pasture feeding requirements. Regardless of the program, their commitment to high-quality feed and low-stress environments ensures the production of healthy animals and wholesome products.

In the heart of America's cattle country, Beef Northwest thrives as a testament to resilience, innovation, and a profound commitment to cattle, people, and excellence.
